FIRE DAMAGES CRAIG ST. HOUSE

A morning fire that apparently started in a truck parked in a carport has caused extensive damage to a house on Craig St. in Timmins, just north of Park Ave.

My Timmins Now Dot Com spoke to Schumacher District Fire Chief Mark Delich on the scene.  His firefighters were called in to help those from the Mountjoy Fire Hall.

”The deputy chief on his way to work headed this way and noticed that the adjacent building was suffering some significant heat damage and the carport where the vehicle was parked was also engulfed,” Delich explained.

That’s when the call went out for immediate help.  Schumacher had been on standby, and was called to the scene.

Delich says no one was hurt.  “There were people in the house, but I guess they were the ones who noticed the vehicle fire, I’m assuming, and then they got out.”

It’s not clear yet how badly the house is damaged, or whether it can be salvaged.  Delich said he hadn’t been inside, so didn’t know how much direct fire damage there is.  He said, however, that a lot of water was being poured into the attic, so water damage to the living area would be significant.
