Vote running today to block strike action by power workers; Drone flybys cause flight shutdown at second-largest British airport

MPPs vote to stop strike action by OPG workers

A power generation strike may be stopped before it’s started in Ontario.
The legislation to keep Ontario Power Generation workers on the job is expected to be passed when it’s voted on at Queen’s Park today. The bill was tabled this week after the workers’ union threatened a strike over failed negotiations. The Ford Government warned the action could lead to power loss in half of Ontario’s communities.

Gatwick Airport shuts down flights over drone drama

Britain’s second-largest airport is shut down due to pesky drones.
The Gatwick Airport in London was expecting over 100,000 passengers and hundreds of flights today, but all have been delayed or rerouted after numerous flybys by drones. UK authorities are tracking down the owners, who could face up to five years in prison for the stunt.

Ontario to follow lead of Integrity Commissioner over Taverner hiring 

The province will follow the lead of the integrity commissioner.
That’s the message from Ontario’s Attorney-General Caroline Mulroney, as the hiring of OPP Commissioner Ron Taverner is probed for political interference. Mulroney says they’ll respect the outcome of the investigation. Taverner is a long-time friend of Ford and has been accused of using his political connection to get the top brass gig.

Alberta woman detained in China likely not Huawei related: Trudeau

A third Canadian arrested in China is likely not connected to Huawei retaliation.
Justin Trudeau says the arrest was not linked to national security concerns. Alberta’s Sarah McIver was reportedly detained because of an issue with her Visa. Two men with connections to Ottawa were detained in China earlier this month after the arrest of Huawei’s CFO.
