CELEBRATION TIME AT NEW HOME OF GOOD SAMARITAN INN

Friday is celebration day for the new location of the Good Samaritan Inn homeless shelter and food bank in South Porcupine.

The old one on Golden Avenue was destroyed by fire on October 24th.  So renovations on the already acquired building on Bloor Street, next to the fire hall were fast-tracked.

Executive director Ed Ligocki says the six misplaced residents have been living in the new Inn, in what will be the living room.  Seven semi-private rooms with bunk beds are almost ready.

“Once we get that done,” he says, “probably this week, they’ll be moving in.”

Ligocki says Friday is Appreciation Day, for all the help offered the Inn since the fire.

“It’ll be food all day, music all day, and tours all day,” he promises. ” We’re very pleased with the response from the city of Timmins, and that’s our heartfelt thank you to all our citizens.”

Ligocki pays special thanks to Goldcorp, which bought the building that was once South Porcupine United Church and Crossroads Baptist Church.

He adds that at the Friday event, he’ll be speaking about the future of Good Samaritan’s homeless shelter and food bank.
