What does the Chamber of Commerce do?

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is spreading awareness on what it is they do.

President Al Thorne presented to city council on Monday, along with the Chief Administrative Officer, Keitha Robson.

Robson says the goal of the Chamber is to work with council to make sure business is strong, which allows members to keep people working and contributing to the city. She says the office answers around 8,000 calls every year for community and business information. They are also host upwards of 50 events per year.

Thorne says the Chamber has five values:

Partnership – To work with business to grow resources and influences through networking

Leadership – Always being adaptable and responsive to the business community

Accountability – To make objective and transparent decisions

Commitment – To support the needs of the community, and

Engagement – To always hear opinions from members, so the Chamber can have a unified voice for business

Robson also says the Chamber is not a city department, and their budget comes from the investment of the business community, not the government.
