Timmins Celebrates Francophone Immigration Week

French culture will be celebrated Thursday night.

The Timmins and District Multicultural Centre is partnering with College Boréale, Université de Hearst and Le Centre Culturel Laronde to host a Francophone Immigration Celebration. Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator Sylvie Lamothe says it’s important to celebrate the different cultures in the region. “For me, I see it as bringing a lot more cultural diversity here in Timmins but we see a lot of need in terms of attracting people up north. Really it’s important to drive our economy, not only at a national level but at the local level as well.”

Lamothe says there will be activities a proclamation celebrating the week and more. “We will have some live music, so we have Cindy Doire who is an award-winning Francophone artist here in our community, so she will be playing some music. And then we will have a short presentation from our community partners.”

The event will run from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at College Boreal. Lamothe says you can register for the event by calling her at 705-495-8623 or by e-mail at [email protected]
