A Gladue reporting program is being launched by the Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Aid Services Corporation. Legal Aid Ontario is funding the program which will have the reports lay out the experience of First Nation, Metis and Inuit people who have been charged with various offences. They will also offer sentencing recommendations. Courts can use the report to consider alternatives to jail time, like community based Aboriginal programs. Three writers will be hired, including one in Timmins.
