Timmins Sets Aside $50,000 Towards CIP

Timmins has followed through putting $50,000 towards promoting developments within the city.

Community Development Planner Dave St. Onge says the funds are going towards the Commercial and Industrial Community Improvement Plan to help redevelop brownfield sites and the underutilized Industrial Park, as well as encourage mining redevelopment.

St. Onge says the idea is primarily to redevelop existing lots, but these lots must have contaminants on site.

He says this is a major indication that council is interested in promoting further development for the city.

St. Onge says you can apply for a grant through city hall’s planning department and they will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are three available; Tax Increment Rebate, Environmental Study and Municipal Fee.

He says this year the grant is $50,000 and council will review on a yearly basis to determine the value annually.
