You can now apply to work the municipal election.
The City of Timmins says it is looking for people to help run the polling stations the count the ballots. The city is looking for people to work as a Deputy Returning Officer, Poll Clerk or Election Assistant. Here are the duties of each positions:
– Deputy Returning Officer (DRO): The election or referendum officer who supervises a polling station. The deputy returning officer’s tasks include making decisions about a person’s eligibility to vote, counting the ballots and certifying the results.
– Poll Clerk: The election officer who assists the deputy returning officer at a polling station by checking to see if a person’s name is on the list of electors and by dealing with the paperwork.
– Election Assistant: The election assistant is responsible for working closely with and supporting the Clerk and DRO in the conduct of the Municipal Election by assisting in the coordination of people, materials and equipment necessary to implement the election. Receive and respond to questions from the public with regard to voter registration and the voting process, and all other duties as assigned by the Clerk.
City Clerk Steph Palmateer says you have to be a little tech savvy in order to volunteer.
Palmateer says even though the election isn’t until the end of October, he is collecting applications now.
He says he is looking for about 60 volunteers for election night. Click here for the application form. The forms can be returned to City Hall.
