Long term care for the ageing population in the North

More seniors are choosing to receive care at home, and staying out of long term care facilities. That’s according to the North East Local Health Integration Network, who hosted a conference with Geriatrician Dr. Samir Sinha. Sinha says long term care isn’t always the best option.

Sinha says says the aging population is going to double in Ontario, and that the population in the North is older than the rest of the province.

Sinha says there is more opportunity to better use long term care beds, and make sure the right people are using the services. Hospital care is much more expensive for tax payers than at home care.
