Timmins is a special stop for an Alberta family walking for cancer research.
The Lefebvre family, creators of the L Foundation and Can-Survive Walk, are walking from Grand Prairie Alberta to St. Louis P.E.I. while raising money and spreading awareness for cancer research and supports. Jimmy Lefebvre says he started the foundation after his father passed away from cancer in 2016. He says his wife, three children and mom have joined this fundraising walk across Canada this summer. The goal is to raise $100-million.
Lefebvre says the foundation has partnered with Canada Gives so the money raised can be handed to organizations working on cancer research and mental supports for everyone affected.
He says the family is walking from his parents house in Grand Prairie to his final resting place in P.E.I. The group is walking about 46 to 48 kilometres a day. Lefebvre says coming to northestern Ontario has been a very special part of the journey because this is where his dad grew up.
He says his dad was born and raised in Moonbeam, and spent time in Kapuskasing and Timmins before moving out west.
Lefebvre says the journey so far has been amazing. He says people have been waving, donating ans stopping to make sure they are okay. The family plans to get to St. Louis P.E.I. August 31st.
