Fed’s are cracking down on First Nations Transparency Act

The federal government is reminding First Nation band leaders to comply with a new law. It’s the First Nations Transparency Act and it gives First Nation residents the right to see how and where their band councils spend money. Aboriginal Affairs minister Bernard Valcourt says 77 percent of band councils have complied with the new law. But about 100 are still holding out. Valcourt says reserves that don’t provide information to their people by November 26th could see new funding withheld as well as non essential funds.
