High school students are learning about what it takes to be a leader.
The Timmins DARE Program held its second annual leadership camp this weekend at Camp Bickell. Throughout the weekend, about 90 high school students worked on teamwork, communication skills and heard from guest speakers on what being a leader means to them.
Organizer and Constable Rick Lemieux says this camp aims to break the cycle of following some friends who are making bad decisions and leading yourself in a better direction.
Lemieux says it teaches them that being a leader is someone who makes their own decisions and makes their own path.
He says this camp helps create new friendships and brings people out of their shells.
College student Zachary Gagne says he participated in the camp last year and came back as a team leader this year. Gagne says he helped plan activities for the high school students. He add that students from all different schools end up forming bonds and learning so much over the weekend.Â
