A southern Ontario couple is taking ideas from Science Timmins to schools in Haiti.
After visiting Haiti last year, Grandi Organization Supporters Brenda and Jason Atkins decided they wanted to help lower and middle class people get better education and jobs. CEO of 360 Insights Jason says his company has an office of 100 employees in Haiti on a campus that has an elementary, high and secondary school. He says there isn’t a lot of technology or hands on academic training. He says this is something that they want to change.
Grandi Executive Director Brenda says the couple heard about all the hands on teaching that is done at Science Timmins and wanted to learn from the best.
Brenda says they want to crete a space like in Science Timmins where students can touch, build and experience the learning in a more functional and hands on way. She says this centre that theay want to create will focus on technology training.
Science Timmins President Antoine Garwah and Chair Lorraine Cantin says it is an honour to have people come from Southern Ontario to learn about the work they do. Cantin says it makes all the hard work that has been put in over the years feel worth it.Â
The Atkins couple says they have permission to build this centre on the same school campus that houses Jason’s Haiti office. Jason says now that the have talked with Garwah and Cantin, they will work on the design process. The couple says the goal is to have the learning centre open by this September. They say if anyone who can speak French is interesting in teaching in Haiti over the winter, you can contact them.Â
