An 83 year old woman from Matheson came close to being victim of a phone scam. She was told if she sent a donation of almost $1000 to the caller, she would receive a cheque for $1 Million. She was warned away from the fraud at the last minute. South Porcupine OPP says to be aware of these scams, and the elderly are generally targeted. Never give any personal information out over the phone, and be careful about who you send money too as it could compromise your banking information.
