Mining Expo will Offer More this Year

Only a few more weeks before the Big Event takes over Timmins.

The Great Canadian Mining Expo is coming to the McIntyre Arena June 6th and 7th with more displays and activities. Organizers say there will be over 400 exhibits from different mining related companies set up, but this year will also include a career fair.

President of Canadian Trade-Ex Glenn Drendhart says the show is partnering with training institutes in the area and the Far Northeast Training Board to show grade 11 and 12 students what kind of careers are available in the industry.

The Far Northeast Training board will be reveling its 10-year forecast for the industry at this career fair. Executive Julie Joncas says the this is something the board has been working on over the past year. Joncas says this forcast will identify occupations of interest and build profiles that include the skill sets, experience and technical requirements for the job. She says even though the results of the forecast aren’t available yet, there are some teaser statistics. The Board says there are an anticipated 1,932 retirements and 887 jobs in anticipated expansion right now.

Drendhart says this year will also feature a new social gathering for industry people to network and more demonstrations to showcase what companies in the region are working on.

The expo will run from 10:00am to 6:00pm on the Wednesday and 9:00am to 4:00pm on the Thursday. Click here for more information on the Big Event.
