Winter Driving Safety

Winter driving is quickly approaching, which has prompted the South Porcupine OPP to remind drivers to take extra caution when there is snow on the ground. Keeping your cars properly maintained throughout the winter with snow tires, washer fluid, and oil is also important. The OPP says to keep your cat stocked with an emergency supply kit, and to check weather conditions before heading out on a long trip.

The Timmins Police also give their own tips:

Drivers are reminded to slow down, and be cautious when approaching intersections. Leave extra room between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, and give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination. If possible, use winter tires, and keep an eye on changing weather conditions. Ensure mechanics such as windshield wipers, defrost system, lights and brakes are in good working order, and be thorough when scraping ice off your vehicle’s windshield.
