Spring Starts with Low Flood Risks

Flood risks are low so far this spring.

The Timmins Flood Advisory Committee met for the first time on April 20th to go over reports and current flow rates. The committee says even with the snow melt starting, water levels in local rivers, creeks and lakes are not a concern. It says that flooding is not a worry at this time, but conditions can quickly change as the weather changes.

The committee says it will do daily water level checks and send out updates as more information becomes available. It says that the warm days and cool nights that Timmins has seen over the last few days will go a long way in reducing the flood risk.

The committee is reminding you that going out onto the lakes and rivers is now dangerous. It says that the ice is thinning, the water is cold and the water is moving fast making all the waterways very hazardous.
