Report Shows a Decline in the Northeastern Region’s Economy

Only 19 per cent of northeastern businesses are confident in the province’s economic future according to the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 economic report.

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce says this is a five per cent drop from last year’s annual business confidence report.

Manager of Policy Nick Stewart says the report shows that there are a few factors that contribute to this drop.

Stewart says both the Timmins and Ontario Chambers will be working together to improve the concerns around electricity rates, taxes and infrastructure issues.

He adds that despite the lack of confidence in the larger economy, 45 per cent of businesses say they have a positive perspective for their own firms.
