Extreme Cold Warning in Effect

The extreme cold weather is continuing throughout today.

Environment Canada says wind chill values of minus 40 or below will continue throughout the day. The weather agency says wind chills will moderate during the daytime hours, however a wind chill near minus 40 is expected again tonight.

It says extreme cold puts everyone at risk. You should watch for cold related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Environment Canada recommends you dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm and the outer layer should be wind resistant.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
