Post Media reaches a deal with Sun Media

The Sun Media line of newspapers, including the Timmins Press and Timmins Times, has been sold by Quebecor Media to Post Media. The $316 million cash deal includes 175 different papers, both in print and online. Both sides have agreed to the deal, but the Competition Bureau will still need to approve it. President of Post Media, Paul Godfrey, says the company intends to continue to operate the Sun Media major market dailies and their digital properties side by side with the existing properties in markets with multiple brands.

If the deal goes through, Post Media would control almost every English language paper in Canada, except those in Toronto. It should take around four to six months to be finalised.
