More criticism over the Ontera sale to Bell. This time its MPP for Timmins-Cochrane, John Vanthof, questioning how the lease will work. Canada’s Competition Bureau raised red flags this week about the sale, but with no power to stop it, they did the next best thing in having Bell lease out part of its infrastructure to East Link. Vanthof says the Liberal government signed a deal that could have given Bell Aliant a monopoly in the North. He is also questioning what guarantees are in place to maintain services and keep costs down when the lease expires, and if there will be ongoing oversight to protect Northerners.
