Accessibility Taxis on the Horizon for Timmins

Timmins is one step closer to getting accessibility taxis.

The Timmins Police Services Board heard presentations of concerns and suggestions about the 10 accessibility plates from both Northern and Vet’s Taxi on Monday.

Northern Owner Dauda Raji says he would like to see the plates divided equally and have regular customers use the taxis when they are not being used for accessibility calls. Vet’s Taxi Owner Richard Lafleur says he is concerned about the costs associated with maintenance and training for these cabs. Lafleur adds he would also like the brokers under the Vet’s umbrella to have an opportunity to obtain some of these plates.

Police Chief John Gauthier will write a report containing some of this feedback and bring it back to the board next month. If this report is approved, it will go to City Council for discussion.
