The MPP for Timmins-James Bay says the province’s plan to improve the group home and foster care system doesn’t address northern issues. Gilles Bisson says the blueprint is a good first step. However the New Democrat says there are some shortcomings. Bisson says for one thing there’s very little support for residents in the James Bay region in the area of mental health services. Bisson says the same holds true when it comes to child protection. Minister of Child and Youth Services Michael Coteau announced the blueprint for legislative reform last week. Objectives include more oversight of children, ensuring young people have a say in how they are cared for and a major boost in the quality of services.
