Fedeli weighs in on lack of electric vehicle charging stations

The MPP for Nipissing says most of the electric vehicle charging stations for the north aren’t up because the Liberals bungled the program.   Vic Fedeli says the Liberals have been looking at installing Level 3 chargers which are designed for the Tesla and higher-end vehicles.

But Fedeli says while Level 3 chargers can be used by some vehicles, they won’t work for most cars and trucks.   He says most vehicles in Ontario, including Northern Ontario, need Level 2 chargers.  Fedeli says the Liberals rushed out the program without proper preparation all for the sake of a photo op.

Fedeli says when the Liberals first announced the program, there was no mention that businesses who wanted the chargers had to make first contact.   He says that would be a good thing to know.

As of June 9ththe Ministry of Transportation website lists New Liskeard as the only northern community with a charging station.  It says the stations are coming soon to other northern centres like North Bay, Mattawa, Timmins and Elliot Lake.
