Council Denies Major Budget Cuts

One more effort to cut costs from the Timmins budget has failed.

On Monday night, Councillor Rick Dubeau wanted council and staff to look at reducing this year’s budget to under two per cent; the same motion he introduced in October. The expenditure budget currently stands at a 2.41 per cent increase. Getting this requested decrease would involve cutting about $3-million from the 2017 budget.

Councillor Noella Rinaldo says she believes department heads gave council the best they could and it’s unrealistic to make any major cut backs at this stage.

Council will discuss this further at a budget meeting on Thursday.
