One purchase could save Timmins about $60,000 a year in winter maintenance costs.
Public Works Manager Ken Krcel says the city is looking at cost savings for its winter maintenance account as costs and the amount of kilometres covered keeps going up. Krcel says buying a new snowplow for the city and hiring a full time worker could cut down on costs. He says this would be one less snow plow the city would have to rent from a third party.
A report brought to city council says the savings per year would pay back the $275,000 cost of the plow.
