A phone scam is targeting people in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service says people have been getting calls from someone claiming to be from Revenue Canada, and is demanding money. Communications Coordinator Marc Depatie says this fraudster will pressure you into “paying the money you owe” over the phone.

Depatie says if Revenue Canada wanted to get in touch with you, they typically send you a letter in the mail. He says if you get one of these calls, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
