Bisson Says the NDP Wants to Put an End to Rent-Hikes in Ontario

The NDP were shut down by the Wynne Liberals and Conservatives over a proposed rent-hike protection Thursday.

The proposal was to protect Ontarians from unfair and unreasonable rent hikes according to Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson. Bisson says the reason for the proposal is the current laws afford landlords the opportunity to raise rent as they see fit.

He says the NDP is trying to get the provincial government to make their upcoming legislation retroactive in order to eliminate landlords from raising rent in an unfair manner. The Liberals’ have not changed rent control legislation for landlords during their 14 years of power since the Conservatives first cancelled rent control in 1997.
