Timmins Mayor Tom Laughren will not be running in the municipal election this fall. He has been Mayor for the past eight years, and a member of city council for the past 20. Laughren says the idea of running for a third time was not completely out of the question, but he is now looking for new prospects.

“My plan was always, if successful, to hold two terms in office before moving on and looking for different opportunities,” Laughren said.

A press conference was held Wednesday afternoon at the Mayor’s Porcupine home to make the announcement.

As of now, there are two candidates running for the position, Todd Lever and Allan Manchester.
