Community Members Give the Hydro Rate Cuts a Thumbs Up

Many community partners are happy to see upcoming hydro rate cuts.

Premier Kathleen Wynne has announced an additional 17 per cent energy rate cut on top of the eight per cent HST rebate that began on January 1st. Mayor Steve Black says these energy rate cuts will ease some stress around town.

Black says he will discuss with the Treasurer about how this will affect the upcoming budget.

The Timmins BIA is also excited to see some upcoming savings. Executive Director Noella Rinaldo says this is a step in the right direction.

Rinaldo adds that this allows businesses to use that money towards salaries or expansion programs.

Timmins Chamber of Commerce Manager of Policy Nick Stewart says this is something the chamber has been fighting for. Stewart adds that the chamber does have some questions about how the government is structuring the rate cuts.

The rate cuts are expected to roll out this summer.
