Mayor Believes More Needs to be Done to Help Northern Ontario

Timmins Mayor Steve Black says more needs to be done to bring businesses and jobs to Northern Ontario.

This comes after the release of latest numbers from the 2016 census. The population of Timmins is down 3.2 per cent in the past five years. Black says this is a trend that is being seen across Northern Ontario.

He adds that it’s not a trend he is happy with, but council will continue to try and improve the quality of life here in Timmins and diversify the economy to add more jobs going forward.

Black says he and the mayors of the four other hubs in Northern Ontario meet frequently and will need to discuss ways to address the problem.
