News Province Renews RED Program SHARE ON: Mackenzie Read, contributor, Tuesday, Feb. 7th, 2017 The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is happy the province has decided to renew the Rural Economic Development program. RED funding is focused solely on rural community projects that will attract investment, create jobs and boost economic growth. FONOM President Alan Spacek says this will especially help communities with no economic development departments. He says it’s a program that FONOM has used extensively in the past, and it has benefited many communities. Spacek believes that having money set aside for smaller scale projects will help stop the competition for provincial funding between smaller municipalities and larger urban centres.
