FONOM Brings Northern Issues to ROMA

The Federation of Ontario Municipalities recently attended the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference.

FONOM President Alan Spacek says they met with Provincial Cabinet members to address several issues facing municipalities in the north. Spacek says his biggest concern is how rising energy prices have effected northern communities. He adds that the Minister of Energy mentioned they have the eight per cent reduction to prevent the share of HST and says there is other relief coming but couldn’t be specific at this point.

Spacek says he also brought up a few other issues including Ontario Northland and railway rights-of-way property taxation. He believes the issues he has brought forward have been addressed appropriately.
