FONOM Concerned About Energy Prices in Norther Ontario

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is concerned about the impacts energy costs have on the Northern Ontario economy. Since the cap and trade program took effect on January 1st, energy costs continue to be one of the most pressing issues facing municipalities.

FONOM President Alan Spacek says he has heard of residents and businesses struggling with the rising costs, but now he is hearing that cities are struggling to operate municipal facilities. Spacek says the Provincial Government, Ministry of Energy and other electrical system operators need to come up with some alternatives to fix the problem.

He adds FONOM will continue to press the government and voice the concerns of municipalities and Northerners.
