Council Has Committed to the Proposed Aquatic Centre

Timmins City Council will be moving forward with the aquatic centre, if the funding is available. Council hopes this will get the ball rolling on the funding and grant process for the estimated $40-million project. Councillor Pat Bamford says the idea of this is to give a positive outlook to funders that if they commit to fund the project, we will commit to build the centre. Mayor Steve Black says one of the many grants they will be applying for will be through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. He hopes to get about $5-million from NOHFC. Black says the city will be working with community partners to create a formal fundraising campaign and move forward with the project.
