The Tory plan to cut 100,000 public sector jobs came under attack at Wednesday’s debate in Timmins. NDP incumbent for Timmins –James Bay Gilles Bisson said it means people like nurses and teachers will lose their jobs. But Progressive Conservative challenger Steve Black said the cuts will come by eliminating middle management which means more money for front-line services like nursing. Black says the unions are telling their members they’ll lose their jobs but stresses that’s not true. Liberal Sylvie Fontaine touched on several issues including the Liberal plan to eliminate the deficit in four years and the need to help remote First Nation communities that have high death rates. One area all three candidates agreed on was the importance of getting the Ring of Fire off the ground because that helps many communities.
