Timmins City Council Stops the Sale of City Land

Timmins City Council has refused to sell a small piece of city-owned land next to McDonald Lake. The roughly half an acre sized lot was recommended for sale by the city’s planning department to nearby property owner Michael Lang. Lang says because the city-owned land is landlocked, it has caused beach goers to trespass over his land to get to the public beach property. Councillor Pat Bamford says once again it is the sale of city land, even though it’s a small piece of land, it’s waterfront property. Bamford states the rationale given is not strong enough to sell a piece of public land to the private sector. Council unanimously opposed the proposal.
