TEDC Wants to be Exempt from Budget Cuts

The Timmins Economic Development Corporation wants to be exempt from an order by city council to have budgets in municipal departments across the city cut by two per cent. Board Chairman Fred Gibbons says it’s impossible to cut that much from their $1-million budget without affecting employment at the TEDC. Gibbons says a two per cent cut would force them to eliminate two of their nine employees. He says reducing the TEDCs budget at this point would be regressive and return them to the same position they were in a few years ago.
