Timmins Police Service Looks to Increase Its Budget

The Timmins Police Service is hoping to up next year’s budget by $794 thousand dollars, an overall increase of just over five per cent . The police board has allocated most of the budget for negotiated salary and benefit increases for officers. Board Chairman Mayor Steve Black says the rest will go towards capital spending needs. Black says some of the capital projects include building repairs, I-T requirements and replacing some police cruisers. He believes city council will have mixed emotions about the increase, but the board wants to increase next year’s budget now so they can spread out the costs over a 10 year period. The proposal will be submitted to council for final approval.
