Uncategorized NDP MP identifies First Nations budget cuts SHARE ON: Rocco Frangione, contributor, Tuesday, May. 20th, 2014 It seems the New Democrat for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing has caught the federal government off balance on First Nation budget cuts. MP Carol Hughes says recent cuts will make it harder to fight poverty on reserves. Hughes says one example is a child benefit reinvestment program which had its funding cut in half. She says that’s got Aboriginal communities scrambling to make up the shortfall. The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs told Hughes he had no knowledge of the cuts and that he’d have to look into the matter.
