City preparing for eventual Kidd Mine closure

With the planned closure of Kidd Mine in just six years, Timmins will be losing a good chunk of its primary workforce.  Mayor Steve Black says the city is always working on conditions to create jobs.  But Black admits losing 800 plus jobs all at once will be painful.  The city is setting up a special committee with the chamber of commerce to focus on the upcoming mine closure.  Black says that committee will help businesses prepare for the job losses and look at how they can adjust to a post Kidd Mine era.
