Illegal moose kill results in hefty fines

Ten men have been fined $7,750 for their part in an illegal moose kill in the Temagami area.  A Brockville man shot the moose and with help from other hunters, transported his kill to the Corbeil area east of North Bay.  In Corbeil, the hunters staged the area to look like that’s where the moose was shot and a First Nation man took credit for the kill claiming Aboriginal hunting rights.  All the hunters shared in the meat.  The Brockville man got the largest fine at $2,000, while the First Nation man, Brian Kitchen of Corbeil, was fined $1,500.   Kitchen is also banned from hunting with non-Aboriginals for two years.  The other hunters received fines ranging from $250 to $500.
