Timmins Hospital upgrading its palliative care unit

End-of-life care at the Timmins Hospital is getting a $420,000 boost from the North East Local Health Integration Network. The funds will buy four beds at the hospital, which plans to open a Hospice Centre early next year. CEO of the LHIN, Louise Paquette, says quality palliative care has been identified as a need for the north. She says these dedicated hospice beds will be a tremendous support for the area.

Physician Lead Dr. Patrick Critchley says the beds are an essential component of a health care system dedicated to providing excellence in palliative care.

Chief Nursing Officer Joan Ludwig says the innovative model will integrate the strengths and expertise of community and hospital palliative care and facilitate enhanced supports and best practices.
