Nickel Belt MP aiming to give a voice to Indigenous communities affected by Ring of Fire

A meeting was held earlier this week to discuss the future of the Ring of Fire.

Former interim leader of the Liberal Party, Bob Rae, was welcomed to the Northern Ontario Caucus to share the impact developments of the Ring of Fire could have on Indigenous communities. Rae shared his experience as lead negotiator of the Mattawa Chiefs Council.

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre says the presentation delivered by Rae looked at opportunities and challenges associated with developing the Ring of Fire and the impact this would have on Indigenous communities.

Serre says people left the meeting knowing the position of the Mattawa First Nations people when it comes to the development and infrastructure of the mines. Serre hopes to ensure all Indigenous communities that are impacted by the potential development have a voice at the table.
