Up to eight months before a decision on proposed aquatic centre will be made

The donations for the proposed aquatic centre are starting to roll in. Mayor Steve Black kicked off the fundraising campaign at his State of the City address last week, and since then at least two other companies have also pitched in.

Black says it’s great news, but the city will need a lot more to turn the plan into a reality. He says big corporate sponsors will need to get on board before the project goes ahead.

Black also notes the city is getting ready to send out a Request for Proposal. That RFP will be for a design-build concept. Black says that will give the city an idea of how much the facility will cost before deciding if it goes forward. He says the city will have an opportunity to cut some features out if it goes over budget, or say no to the entire project if the funds aren’t raised.

Black says if the project will actually happen will be decided in the next six to eight months.
