News Canadian Cancer Society scaling back its Timmins operations, cancels Relay for Life SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Thursday, Sep. 29th, 2016 Photo: A previous Relay for Life event in Timmins. Supplied by Shane Button. The Canadian Cancer Society is cancelling its Relay for Life event in Timmins. Instead, the cancer society will be moving towards youth centred events, which it hopes to set up in the city this year. The local branch is also moving to a smaller location, with less hours of operation. However, the public is still able to access its full support services. That includes things like transportation, the Cancer Information Service, and practical and emotional support. The CCS says the decision to scale back its presence in Timmins was difficult, but necessary. The cancer society also says it is still committed to working with its volunteers.
