News A pitch to ban left turns on Algonquin is sparking discussion throughout Timmins SHARE ON: Taylor Ablett, staff Thursday, Sep. 15th, 2016 The idea of banning left turns along Algonquin during peak hours is sparking debates throughout the city. Councillor Rick Dubeau originally brought the idea up, to follow up on a recent study done on the Connecting Link. Mayor Steve Black says it’s a fairly split topic, not only amongst council but also among the public. He says he understands the frustration when getting stuck behind someone turning left, and missing the light. But, he says he thinks the city will see just as much frustration in making drivers take three right hand turns in order to go left. He says chances are you’ll miss the light cycle anyway. Black says this isn’t a critical issue for Timmins, and with the amount of traffic the city has, drivers may have to wait for one light cycle. The city hasn’t made any decisions on the issue yet, and will only come back to the council table if requested by a councillor.
