Supplied by Taylor Ablett. Reaction to this week’s throne speech is continuing, and now Chair of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation is speaking out. Fred Gibbons was asked his thoughts on the speech during Monday night’s council meeting, specifically about the lack of Ring of Fire mentions. Gibbons, who is also the President of Northern College, says that aspect of the speech was disappointing, and now we’ll have to wait until budget time to see if there will be any movement from the upper levels of government. Gibbons says everyone, including this community, is waiting with bated breath to see that project finally get underway. But, he also notes it’s not a secret that the project was going to take some time to get started. That’s because of the extensive environmental concerns and the issues with respect to First Nation consultations.
