OPP call Labour Day the deadliest weekend in 20 years

This Labour Day weekend was the deadliest one in the last 20 years. That’s according to the OPP, who say there were 12 road related deaths in the province. There was also one marine fatality, and one off-road vehicle death. Almost 800 distracted driving charges were laid across the province as well.

Inspector Michael Pilon with the James Bay Detachment says distracted driving is now the number one cause of death on the road, surpassing impaired driving. But, he says the good news is there were no fatalities or collisions in connection to distracted driving in the area over the long weekend.
