Kayak Fest wraps up, event organizers call it a success

Kayak Fest has wrapped up in Timmins, and organizers are calling the three-day event a success. Tourism Timmins Manager Guy Lamarche says more people showed up for the event this year than ever before, with a record number of crowds. But, he notes it’s also a record production this year, as things were ramped up in a big way.

Lamarche says the addition of new events, like the summer water sports show, helped to keep the park active even through Sunday which is traditionally the slowest day.

Lamarche says tourism is now going to run the numbers through an impact model, which will determine the exact economic impact the event had on the city. But, he says it’s all looking positive, as hotel and restaurant owners saw a boost in numbers throughout the weekend.

Lamarche also notes the organizing committee estimates around 10,000 people were in the park Saturday night to see the fireworks and headlining bands Helix and Honeymoon Suite.
